Open The Gates For PGWP Canada
Open the Gates for PGWP Canada by Knowing These Simple Things
Post-graduation work permits (PGWPs) are open work permits given to international understudies who graduate from a Canadian program of study. PGWPs permit the holder to work for any business for as many hours as they wish in Canada.
PGWPs are valid for between eight months to three years and are an extraordinary method for obtaining significant Canadian work experience. When an applicant has work experience in Canada, it opens many opportunities to get a permanent Canadian residence.
What is a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)?
Post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWPs) are for international understudies who have graduated from a Canadian Designated Learning Institution (DLI). PGWPs are open work permits, meaning that they award foreign nationals the opportunity to work for any business in Canada.
Not all programs of study in Canada are eligible for a post-graduation work permit. Make sure to verify PGWP eligibility before selecting a program.
Unlike most Canadian work permits, the PGWP doesn’t require a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). PGWPs empower eligible graduates to gain significant Canadian work experience. With enough work experience in Canada, numerous foreign nationals become eligible for Canada’s long-lasting residency programs, including one of the following pathways:
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- Government Skilled Worker (FSW)
- Government Skilled Trades (FST)
- Provincial Nomination Programs (PNP)
- Quebec Immigration Programs
PGWP Quick Realities
A post-graduation work permit can be valid for any length of time between eight months and three years. A PGWP will not be issued for a duration longer than the applicant’s study duration in Canada.
The PGWP will be approximately a similar duration as the applicant’s study period, up to a maximum of three years.
However, long over half of your program of study is directed via in-person classes, you are eligible for a PGWP equivalent to the duration of your program of study. If you studied part-time or did speed up investigations, your PGWP will be the length of your program of study if taken full-time.
Who is eligible for a PGWP?
To be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), a foreign national should be
- Around 18 years of age.
- Studied full-time in Canada.
- Completed study in an eight-month program.
The study program is more likely than not to be finished at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in one of the following kinds of programs listed beneath. Also, in a request to apply for a work permit, a foreign national should apply within 180 days of completing their study program.
If an applicant is applying from within Canada, they should have valid status at the time of application.
If their study permit has expired or will expire, they might apply for status as a visitor before applying for the PGWP. However, applicants who apply for a PGWP before the expiration of their study permit are eligible to begin working full time immediately while their application is processing. Applicants might apply for a PGWP from abroad.
The following degrees of study and programs are eligible for PGWPs:
- Public post-auxiliary schools like a school, exchange/technical everyday schedule, or CEGEP in Quebec
- A private post-optional school that works under similar standards as public schools (applies to certain institutions in Quebec)
- Private auxiliary or post-optional school (in Quebec) that offers qualifying programs
- Canadian private schools can lawfully grant degrees under provincial regulation just for those signed up for study programs leading to a degree as authorized by the province.
What amount of time does it require to get a PGWP?
A PGWP can take 80 to 180 days to process somewhere in the range. While waiting for your PGWP, you are allowed to work in Canada, provided you applied before the expiry date of your understudy permit.
You have 180 days to apply for your PGWP from the date you finish every one of your program of study requirements.
If you leave Canada after your studies have been finished, you can now apply for a PGWP from abroad. Previously post-graduation work permit applications should have been submitted exclusively from within Canada.
If a PGWP application is submitted from outside Canada, additional documentation may be requested depending on the visa office that will process the application.
Can I apply for a work permit after my PGWP?
Nothing about a PGWP keeps you away from applying for another work permit later. If you are eligible, you can apply exempt permit for an LMIA or LMIA absolved permit; however, it might merit considering applying for a highly durable Canadian residence, given you have Canadian work experience.
The following immigration programs have options for candidates with Canadian work experience:
- Canadian Experience Class
- Government Skilled Worker Program
- Provincial Nominee Programs
- Quebec Immigration Options
Can I work after graduation before I apply for my PGWP?
International graduates who apply for a PGWP before the expiry of their study permit can begin legitimately working in Canada. These candidates don’t have to hold a Canadian work permit while awaiting a decision on their application for a PGWP.
If your understudy permit has expired, you might be eligible to restore your status and apply, provided you have just been out of status for less than 90 days.
What number of times can I apply for a PGWP?
You can apply for a PGWP once. Suppose you are planning on taking another program of study that is a continuation of your first program, or you are considering taking a more drawn out degree program in Canada.
In that case, you might need to apply for your PGWP strategically. Using after the most extended study period will allow you a PGWP with a longer validity of three years.
